Wedding Seating Chart Planning Template: Tables, Groups, and Conflict Guide
A worksheet for planning your wedding seating chart, including table layout options, guest grouping strategies, handling divorced parents, and a blank table template for every seat.
Table Layout Options
Choose your table configuration before you start assigning guests. Mixing table sizes is fine, but confirm the final layout with your venue.
Round Tables
Round tables are the most common for wedding receptions. They encourage conversation because everyone can see everyone else at the table.
| Table Size | Comfortable Seating | Maximum Seating |
|---|---|---|
| 48-inch round | 6 guests | 8 guests |
| 60-inch round | 8 guests | 10 guests |
| 72-inch round | 10 guests | 12 guests |
Best for: Venues with good sightlines, receptions where guests know each other within groups.
Rectangular (Banquet) Tables
Rectangular tables work well for smaller weddings and family-style meals. Conversation tends to be limited to the person next to you rather than the whole table.
| Table Size | Comfortable Seating | Maximum Seating |
|---|---|---|
| 6-foot rectangle | 6 guests | 8 guests |
| 8-foot rectangle | 8 guests | 10 guests |
Best for: Smaller weddings, farm tables for a more casual aesthetic, long communal seating arrangements.
Venue table count: _____ tables of _____ (round/rectangular) + _____ tables of _____
Your confirmed guest count: _____ guests (seated)
Plus couple + wedding party (if head table): _____ additional seats
Total seats needed: _____
Head Table vs. Sweetheart Table
Choose one:
Head table (couple seats with wedding party, facing the room)
- Number of people at head table: _____
- Does the head table include partners of wedding party members? Yes / No
Sweetheart table (couple only, center of room)
- Wedding party seated at regular guest tables: Yes (fill out table templates for each)
Family table (couple seats with immediate family instead of wedding party)
